Our Story

Mad Al’s Fudge Factory began with an unexpected opportunity and a lifelong love of baking.

I started baking long before Mad Al’s existed. I ran a home bakery, attended pastry school, and eventually found myself working alongside one of my pastry school instructors, Chef Ford. While working with him, I discovered something that quickly became a new obsession: the art of making fudge and chocolate.

My fascination with fudge actually started a few years earlier during a family trip to Mackinac Island. There was something special about those old-fashioned fudge shops—the smell of chocolate, the beautiful slabs of fudge, and the tradition behind every piece.

But as I learned more about making fudge myself, I knew I wanted to create something beyond traditional fudge. I wanted to take the nostalgic treat we all know and love and give it a little Mad Al’s magic—reimagining classic flavors, creating unexpected combinations, and making fudge that feels like an experience.

Then came the opportunity that would change everything. As Chef Ford prepared to retire, he offered me the chance to take over the shop. What started as an unexpected opportunity quickly became something that Jake and I couldn’t imagine not doing.

At Mad Al’s, we believe you can taste the difference when you use high-quality chocolate, real butter, rich ingredients, and carefully chosen flavors. We don’t want to make fudge that is simply sweet. We want it to be smooth, creamy, decadent, and genuinely memorable.

And fudge is just the beginning.

Mad Al’s is our little chocolate playground, where we get to dream up all kinds of sweet creations. From handcrafted chocolates and candies to seasonal treats and completely new ideas, we’re always imagining what we can create next. Our hope is to keep growing, keep experimenting, and fill our little corner of the world with even more chocolate, candy, and a whole lot of magic.

Today, Mad Al’s is truly a family business.

My husband, Jake is my biggest supporter and partner in all of this, and Maddie and Alex are the inspiration behind our name—and so much of what we do.

Our kids love being part of the shop just as much as we love having them there. They get to see the behind-the-scenes messiness, the creativity, the long days, the excitement of a new flavor, and, of course, the very important job of taste-testing.

For us, that’s what makes Mad Al’s special.

We’re not just making fudge. We’re creating something together as a family.
